This quiz asks 15 questions that serve to alert romantic partners to signs of a potential batterer. If you are concerned about your partner, contact the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council at 402-398-9928 or the Nebraska Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalition at 1-800-876-6238 for additional information.
Ask yourself these questions:
Has your partner done any of these things to you?
- Is jealous and possessive toward you, won’t let you have friends, checks up on you, won’t accept breaking up?
- Does he/she try to control you by being very bossy, giving orders, making all the decisions, doesn’t take your opinion seriously?
- Is scary? Do you worry about how this person will react to things you say and do? Does this person threaten you, use or own weapons?
- Is violent? Does this person have a history of fighting, lose his/her temper, brag about mistreating others?
- Does he/she abuse drugs or alcohol and pressure you to take them?
- Does he/she blame you when you are mistreated? Said you provoked it?
- Does he/she have a history of bad relationships and blames the other person for all the problems?
- Does he/she believe that men should be in control and powerful and that women should be passive and submissive?
- Has he/she hit, pushed, choked, restrained, kicked or physically abused you?
- Does he/she make your family and friends concerned about your safety?
- Does he/she insult or drive away your friends?
- Does he/she humiliate you in private or public?
- Has he/she gotten angry when not getting his/her way?
- Has he/she made it necessary for you to make excuses or lie?
- Has he/she left you feeling afraid or ashamed to talk to others about your relationship?
If you checked even one – you need to think about this relationship!
All of these situations can be classified as emotional or physical abuse…and are never justified!
