Would you like to give up tobacco? If so, there are several options available to you including nicotine replacement via gum, patch, nasal inhaler, counseling or support groups, Zyban or going "cold turkey."
Stopping tobacco use has several health and economic advantages for you. You’ll feel better, probably live longer, and have more money in your pocket, because you’re giving up an expensive habit.
Before you quit, there are several things you can do to make your attempt more successful:
- Learn as much as you can about tobacco and why you use it.
- Get your friends and family involved, let them know you are quitting and get them to help with this process.
- Talk to your doctor about tobacco cessation medications. You may benefit from one of the medications available.
- Write down your reasons for quitting, carry the list with you, and refer to it when the going gets tough.
- Set a quit date! Your quit date should have significance for you, (e.g. birthday, anniversary). Set your quit date at a time when life is relatively calm and stable.
- Realize that quitting is tough-be easy on yourself if you experience a relapse, learn from the experience, and use that knowledge in your next quit attempt.
Good luck with your quit attempt!
